Write an opinion piece that addresses your view or takes a stand on a timely issue related any aspect of New World archaeology. In selecting a topic, you might find these news blogs useful:

The New York Times recently celebrated 40 years of opinion pieces; look at their “best of” choices here: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/09/25/opinion/opedat40.html. You might find the following guidelines useful: http://newsoffice.duke.edu/duke_resources/oped. You should aim to
produce a piece that can ideally be submitted to a major newspaper by the end of course. This is a creative assignment so feel free to take the op-ed in any direction you wish.
Please limit your op-ed to 1100 words or less and follow these guidelines: double-space your text and use a 12-point font or smaller with one-inch margins. Be sure to proofread your op-ed by reading it out loud—imagine that a large public audience will see it. Make sure you have a good title (something that will hook readers). Upload your finished product on Blackboard in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx). Please include a separate file OR note that details the sources and research you did for the assignment.
