CALMING DOWN AND SPREADING OUT ACTIVITY
Calming down activities in children is aimed at regulating emotional responses, particularly during stressful moments or in situations that require emotional regulation. Children who have difficulty in self-regulation can go through calming strategies meant to tackle anxious moments or instability in emotions. These exercises or strategies are geared towards helping young children especially between three and five year’s olds. It is very appropriate to help the young ones to know how to self-regulate their emotions and anxious states.
The type of calming or spread out activity chosen is crucial to consider the development level or stage of the particular child. For instance, a child will be required to have excellent skills in language and be able to express themselves adequately in order to engage in brainstorming and problem-solving. These skills are necessary considering calming activities go beyond regulating the anxiety or emotional state but also in using the brain to master the art of self-regulation. Relaxation strategies such as stretching the hand help in calming down nerves, stabilizing emotional stress levels and changing emotional intensity.
Such an exercise helps in improving concentration, calming the body nerves, regulating breathing, and stabilizing the heartbeat. All these are aimed at bringing the body to a calmed and collected state. Spreading out further brings calmness and greater relaxation to the body. It dispels out exhaustion, which may be a high contributor to anxiety levels. In addition to dispelling out exhaustion, spreading-out calms nerves and body muscles.
