My planned focus is to illustrate how the social media has transcended the age barrier by allowing the young and old to access similar content from the Internet. I intend to define what identity is, and compare how the young and old social media users identify themselves over the Internet. As previously indicated, social media has a significant influence on an individual’s identity because it has an impact on people’s behaviors. I plan to illustrate how an individual’s identity determines his or her role in social groups including the online community. Identity also has strong influences a person’s cultural beliefs and political affiliations. The ideas I plan to use in this project include the common reasons offered by people of different ages for using social media. I intend to use statistical data on such as the Pew Research Center report on the use of social network by individuals of various age groups in 2012 used in the previous project. This will help me in preparing the PowerPoint presentation by allowing me to use visual aids in terms of graphs and charts to elaborate my arguments.
