1. How did the European nations differ in their approach to settlement Economic activity was the main item on the list for majority of the settlers. However, of particular interest are the English for their interest to settle down and stay. As stated by Norton, “the English settlers arrived in family groups and recreated the European agricultural economy and family life to an extent impossible in colonies where single men predominated” (Norton, et al, 2012 p. 29). This clearly showed that the English had the mentality to make a home in America. On the other hand, the Spanish, French, and Dutch came and settled particularly with the aim of trading and making quick money. The Spaniards heavily invested in the country with massive business interests in buildings, land, churches, and business enterprises (Sokolow, 102). They settled along the Mississippi River with the main aim of exploiting the available resources. They went further and established
