Discuss the Sexuality and Gender Roles.

In recent decades, mainstream media outlets have begun to address issues such as homosexuality and nontraditional roles for each gender. Depending on your viewpoint, you may feel that media has gone too far or that it hasn’t been bold enough in breaking new ground. Whatever your viewpoint, these can be charged issues, and the media will continue to play a role in forming and responding to society’s perception.

In this Discussion, you will address how popular culture texts have shaped perceptions of gender roles and sexual orientation.

To prepare for this Discussion:

• Review this week’s Learning Resources.

• As you did last week, note the Discussion Group to which you have been assigned. You are in Group C.

Your group will discuss a LITERATURE (books, magazines, and graphic novels).

• Find one or two specific texts within the media type assigned to your group that demonstrate a role that popular culture plays in the perception of gender roles and/or sexual orientation. (Remember that modern popular culture texts refers to movies, TV shows, pieces of music, books, magazines, etc. Also, modern popular culture references are not restricted to recent examples.)

• Reflect on how perceptions of gender roles and sexuality have been shaped by popular culture.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post a response of 2 paragraphs that analyzes how texts of the media type assigned to your group impacts gender roles and/or sexual orientation. Support your assertions by making at least 2 references, in proper APA format, to your course readings.

Note: Each answer should include illustrations from one or two specific texts of the media type assigned to your Discussion Group. You may be writing about a text that others and/or your Instructor have not seen. Therefore, it is critical to back up your points with your examples and solid arguments; your writing will be gauged primarily on these merits.

Be sure to support your ideas by connecting them to this week’s Learning Resources or to something you have read, heard, seen, or experienced.
