Discuss the importance of visual literacy way of communication.

Kennedy’s definition of visual literacy connotes the ability to conceptualize the meaning of any form of communication using visual images. He adds that visual literacy enhances individual’s intellectual capability contrary to the thinking that the possession of certain skills augments individual’s visual literacy. As per the definition, visual literacy is not a skill but an impulsive reaction in the brain. According to the textbook’s definition, visual literacy signifies the ability to comprehend information both objectively and subjectively (Wilde & Wilde, 1991). Another difference in the definitions is that Kennedy insists on the use of sight in gaining literacy, but the textbook epitomizes the relation between text and images. For similarities, both definitions recognize the differences in people’s understanding. Another similarity in the definitions is that people learn by visual literacy before gaining knowledge.
