Introduction
Pollution is one of the environmental concepts that have existed for a long time, both in the modern and early societies. However, the rate at which this epidemic has rocked the contemporary society is relatively higher when compared to the earlier days. The reason for the increase is due to advancement in technology consequently providing a platform on which more pollutants are created. Different areas have different levels of pollution. However, first world countries are the worst hit. Going through the issue of pollution in the United States is one of the most effective ways through which an individual can understand the issue.
History of Pollution in the United States
In early days, conventional methods of cooking and power generation did not exist. One of the means through which people in the United States used to generate power is through the burning of wood and coal. This method made survival rather difficult because all the smoke from these processes made it almost impossible to live healthy lives. Water was also contaminated and this brought about diseases, since people and animals used to share the same water for drinking and other uses. These problems led to the construction of sewerage systems. Despite the widespread pollution at the time, it is imperative to note that the birth of modern day pollution was because of the revolutionized industries. These industries in the country produced a lot of fumes and waste material that affected the lives of people.
Forms of Pollution
There exists different forms of pollution in the United States. The most common form of this is air pollution. Another type of pollution present in the country is water pollution. Soil and noise pollution are the third and fourth major forms of pollution respectively (Richards 31). There exists other forms of pollution such as light and visual pollution but these are not widespread as the ones mentioned above.
Sources and Causes of Pollution
Air pollution is the major cause of pollution in the United States. Los Angeles receives negative recognition as the area with the most contaminated air in the United States. Los Angeles holds around 18 million people and the area is a business hub. This means that most people in the area head to work using motor vehicles that pollute the air through the gases produced by the exhaust.
