Development Age 4/5 Discussion
Jean Piaget is one of the internationally recognized biologists and this is from his contribution in cognitive development studies. According to the biologist, there exist different stages of development. The sensorimotor stage is the initial stage of development and mainly involves infants getting to understand the relationship between their bodies and the environment. The formal operation stage is another major stage and is the final of all the stages. This stage is quite advanced as compared to the sensorimotor stage and this is because people in this stage have advanced mental capacity and have the ability to formulate hypotheses effectively.
Piaget’s theory is of the ideology that an individual’s childhood is very critical in ensuring that the person develops effectively. The neo-Piagetian and Vygotsky’s theories are not different from the initial theory but are effective in that they have enabled people to incorporate new aspects of development that researchers have discovered in recent times. Culture has had minimal influence on these theories provided the steadfastness of the associated scientists that work based on pure facts.
Piaget’s theory approaches physical and cognitive development based on the societal issues that the biologist had faced. Moreover, he integrated an emotional outlook on the topic thus majorly discrediting his work. Neo-Piagetian and Vygotsky’s theories are some of the most effective theories for the knowledge included in them comes from facts and does not bear emotional ties.
