The News Culture on Facebook: Young People and Adults
Social media has become a popular trend. It connects both the young and the old, women and men, people across races and national borders. If ever there was a global culture, social media has become it- or at least something close to it and it has had a major impact on identity. Ellison (4) describes identity as a construct that covers how people think about themselves and their roles in the larger social environments. Ellison (4) further argues that these thoughts manifest themselves through social interactions and relationships with them. The focus of this paper is how social media influences identity, so that it becomes hard to discern the specific elements that define a group of people. In examining this question, this paper examines the question of identity, focusing on the cross-age behaviors of young people and adults on Facebook.
