Assignment 5: Final Take-home Essays (Version B)

The final take-home essays are worth 30% of your final grade. You have seven calendar days to submit your answers using the Assignment 5 link. If you are mailing your answers, they must be post-marked no more than seven calendar days after the date you received the take-home essay questions from your tutor.

You are asked to select and respond to only THREE of the FIVE essay questions. If you mistakenly answer all five, only the first three will be marked. Each response is worth 10 marks for a total of 30.

ShapeImageDevelop a 600-800 word essay for each of the three questions you have selected. Your answers must draw primarily on the required course readings, film, and commentary. You are required to document your sources, using in-text citations and providing a list of works cited following APA referencing guidelines. For each essay, you must use a minimum of two different sources and include a minimum of two concrete examples to support your argument.

Select and write on three (3) questions from the list below

1 . Provide a critique of the “nature vs. nurture” understanding of gender and gender relations.

Discuss how parenting practices are gendered.

Valerie Walkerdine argues that “the demands of contemporary femininity. .. blend together traditional masculinity and femininity” (2006, 522). Discuss this statement in relation to both girls and women.

Gender never operates in isolation from other social identities. Discuss the intersection of gender with two of the following: race, class, or disability.

Discuss heterosexism and homophobia and their impact on those who identify as lesbian, gay, bi, transgender, queer or intersex (LGBTQI).
