Communication
The genres my group and I used during the assignment were the PowerPoint and the memo. I thought about the content and the quantity of information that I had to convey to my audience. In terms of content, I had to evaluate whether the audience had adequate information about the topic I wished to discuss. For instance, I would not use the same content for the students like the one I would use on my colleagues. The reason for the difference is that my colleagues would have enough information about the issue I was addressing while the students would require some additional explanations.
Based on the amount of information to convey, I chose the PowerPoint for the students and the memo for the colleagues. The PowerPoint slides allowed me to present more information about the topic of “communication in healthcare institutions.” The slides enabled me to explain some of the common terms used by medical practitioners and the risks involved in misunderstanding the concepts. My colleagues already know the terms and understand the risks involved in misusing them. Consequently, the memos were the most appropriate method of communicating with my colleagues because they are concise and directly address critical issues within organizations.
The distinctions I applied while using the PowerPoint slides and the memo were the acceptable lengths of the two genres. Although the PowerPoint slides contain brief outlines about topics under discussion, the slides allow an individual to make lengthy presentations using
