Paper 1 is an interdisciplinary analysis of literature based on works covered in the first two units: Native American Literature and Early Colonial Literature. The paper should focus on one or two of the works covered in either of these units in light of another area of inquiry. For example, an analysis of one work from each unit could highlight the fundamental cultural differences between colonists and people of the first nations.
Following the process below will help with the writing of this paper:
1. Select the work(s) of literature.
2. Think about what themes are most interesting to you.
3. Form an arguable thesis statement that references both the theme and the literature.
4. Research the theme using a database such as JSTOR, or Academic Search Complete (http://www.farmingdale.edu/library/search-databases.shtml).
5. Select passages from the literature and the peer-reviewed article you have obtained from the database that work well together.
6. Incorporate the passages selected into an outline that moves in a logical progression in support of the thesis statement.
